This album came out of an abstract story that developed from a series of weird dreams in late summer. I think you'll find it has kind of dark, progrock fairytale vibe to it. I hope you enjoy it!
This album was influenced by Bach's organ music, some pieces by Mozart, and progressive rock albums like Blue Öyster Cult's "Fire of Unknown Origin", "Caress of Steel" by Rush, and Gryphon's "Red Queen to Gryphon Three" and "Raindance". I think you'll also hear a hint of Konami/Ultra jam in there as well.
This is the first album where I made heavy use of the sawtooth wave, one of the key enhancements of the VRC6 MMC chip. Like always and as it should be, it's all 4-bit square, triangle, LFSR noise, and saw, with a handful of my favorite DMC drums.
I am really happy to have worked with Sage Howard (www.sagehowardillustration.com
) on the artwork and character design for this little project. He did an amazing job visualizing nearly incoherent dream notes and was a joy to work with. You should follow him at twitter.com/editedthought
and – you should hire him!
If you'd like to support this work, I highly recommend you get the art booklet. They came out really beautifully, showcase's Sage's great illustrations, and includes an immediate digital download of the album!
There's also a little EP of instrumental piano and organ sketches that eventually turned into this chiptune album. Check it out: accumulator.bandcamp.com/album/sketches-rise-of-the-wolf
